I regularly fall in love with people I come across that are doing amazing, wonderful and joyous things. My favourite at the moment is Jessi Arrington who shares life lessons learnt during her adventures wearing nothing new.
I really didn't want to do another blog so soon about a ted.com talk but I couldn't help myself. Jessi's talk made me so happy that I just had to share it with you.
Jessi Arrington admits that she is outfit obsessed. Nevertheless, she packed nothing for TED but 7 pairs of undies, buying the rest of her clothes in thrift stores around LA.
Jessie is so gorgeous, captivating and has such a wonderful smile. She excitedly shows her week's worth of outfits. She loves colour as do I; a subject I have become quite fascinated with. I can't bear to wear black - a difficult thing to do in winter when it seems like everything in the shops is black, black and more black. I have also become slightly fitness obsessed (I just couldn't bear to hold it back any longer) and it seems like you just can't buy any workout gear that isn't black. But I digress.
Some of my favourite life lessons that Jessi shares while showing her wonderful colourful outfits are:
- colour is powerful - it is almost physiologically impossible to be in a bad mood when wearing bright red pants;
- fitting in is way overrated;
- embrace your inner child;
- confidence is key - if you think you look good in something you almost certainly do;
- developing your own unique style is a great way to tell the world about yourself without saying a word.
Here is Jessie's ted talk if you want to have a look. She also does a lovely blog on www.luckysoandso.com.
And I just couldn't resist sharing another couple of ted talks while I was at it:
- Terry Moore on how to tie your shoes - I tried it and it works;
- Shea Hembrey on how he became 100 artists - all I can say is, this guy absolutely blew my mind.
And while I am at it, I want to share another couple of things that I have come across lately:
- It made me so happy to read about this in the June 2011 Yoga Matters newsletter - Planet Yoga, where guru elders teach us a thing or two about yoga and tai chi. Apparently, next month, 93 year old BKS Iyengar and the oldest Chinese martial artist alive, 117 year old Master Lu Zijcan will come together at the China-India yoga summit to be held in Guangzhou. How brilliant is that! And here I was thinking that maybe at 43 years old I was a touch crazy for thinking about starting to teach fitness classes again - why, I'm just a whipper snapper.
- And last of all, my darling sister sent me this video by a Professor of Music, Dr Glenn Smith, who cleanses his crystals by putting them in his piano and playing them a tune. How wonderful! Suzi thought I would appreciate it given most of my Earth Goddess crystals are sitting on top of my piano in lovely glass bowls, and she was right. I must remember to play them a tune.
What a wonderful world we live in! I'm off to get some bright red pants.
